A propos Narayanan Devadasan

I (N. Devadasan) am a medical doctor by training, who then specialised in public health. My PhD dissertation was on "Performance of community health insurance schemes in India". After having worked as a primary care physician in a remote area of India, I joined the WHO India office and was in charge of communicable disease cluster for the entire country. This gave me an insight into public health issues in the different states of our country. I resigned from the WHO and started on my PhD from the Gent University, Belgium. Simultaneously, I also founded the Institute of Public Health, a not-for-profit academic institution that specialises in Health Policy and Systems Research as well as in Online Training of public health professionals. As a PI, I have conducted various national and international level research projects on governance, health financing and health care services. Details are provided on our website (www.iphindia.org). I also teach health financing courses at various universities in India. My current interest is in strategic purchasing and I am trying to build the capacity of the government health insurance scheme implementers in active purchasing. I have just got a small grant from the GoI to conduct a study and come up with a guideline for the Indian context.
