A propos Benoit Van Keirsbilck

I’m currently Director of the Belgian section of Defence for Children – International (DCI), which I contributed to found about 25 years ago. This NGO acts as a watchdog over the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. I’m also President of the International Executive Council (International board) of DCI at international level (elected during the last International General Assembly of the Movement, in March 2012 in Geneva). DCI has national sections in about 50 countries and its International Secretariat is based in Geneva. The DCI-Movement works primarily in the field of child justice (juvenile justice, juveniles in conflict or in contact with the law, children deprived of liberty,...). I was the Director of the Children Law Service of Brussels (Service droit des jeunes) during 25 years. This service assists young people and their families with questions of law, access to justice, legal help, children’s rights,... I was thus in direct contact with children, youngsters and families facing difficulties and helped them to fight against their social exclusion and for the respect of theirs rights. I participated at the creation and I’m co-director of the Interdisciplinary Centre of the Rights of the Child (CIDE) which gathers 4 universities and 2 NGO. This Centre organises a University degree on children’s rights and conducts academic researches in that field. I’m Chief Editor of the Belgian edition of the Journal of Children’s Law and give numerous training courses and conferences in Children’s Law, at the national and international levels.
