UNICEF in collaboration with USAID, BMGF, the Community Health Roadmap and the Community Health Community of Practice (CH-CoP) will convene a second ICHC to take stock of and build on experiences and knowledge since ICHC 2017. This includes lessons emerging from the implementation of key initiatives/partnerships including the Integrating Community Health Collaboration and the Intelligent Community Health Systems alongside learning’s drawn from major convening in recent years (from the Global PHC conference in Astana, to the High Level Meeting on Universal Health Care, to the institutionalizing iCCM in Addis, to the Global Pneumonia Forum, and the World Health Assembly’s resolution on CHWs).

ICHC 2021 aims at renewing global commitment to a decade of accelerating primary health care through community health to achieve the SDGs, drawing from the opportunities and lessons learned from the COVID-19 response, whilst taking stock of country progress in institutionalizing community health to galvanize increased coordinated investments and joint actions. The conference is an opportunity to share progress, reforms and facilitate country action on urgent priorities for PHC at community level.

The virtual conference between 29th March -1st April, 2021 will convene country delegations, with Ministries of Health leading in identifying multi-sectoral and cross-programmatic country teams, including relevant members from their departments, implementing partners and civil society. There will be pre-conference events to facilitate exchange of lessons across key thematic areas (emerging areas for review/validation include COVID-19; measurement & accountability + quality of care; financing; equity – spotlight on zero dose communities + gender; data science & analytics).

  • Pre-conference events- assist the conference planning group in activities (like country stock-taking workshop, development of status papers, country snapshots, social media engagement),
  • During conference- (facilitate sessions, note taking, media engagement).
  • Author or co-author blogs related to the conference.
  • Contribution will be acknowledged through badges, authorship and registration for the conference.
