The Second International Symposium on Community Health Workers (CHW) will be held from 22 to 24 November 2019 in Dhaka (Bangladesh) around the theme: Evolving Health System to Achieve Universal Health Coverage through CHW’s. Among the four subthemes selected from this symposium, one is specifically dedicated to CHWs in special situations with aspects relating to urban contexts, conflict and humanitarian crises. You can access the symposium website here.
The Community Health CoP would like to take part to this event by setting up a panel on the theme: Community health workers in fragile settings: Experiences from global south. This choice is also justified by our willingness to support the process kicked off by several CoPs at a workshop in October and focused on the challenges and perspectives posed by health systems in the context of fragility in certain Francophone countries of Africa (see also this blog post).
The panel will focus on the context, the mechanisms of intervention of the CHWs and the implications for the health system and the community. The multi-country panel will aim for cross-country knowledge sharing and learning.
At this stage, your main task will be to prepare the abstract presenting the panel. If the abstract is selected by the symposium organisers, you willl be expected to prepare your own presentation and to attend the symposium. On our side ,we will look for a funding to cover your participation costs (without guarantee at this stage).
We will select 2-3 experts from the Global South. Applicants have to hold sufficient experience on the subject to be presented, in terms of either research or field practice. They must be members of the CH CoP and speak English fluently (the whole symposium will be in English).
